Leadership

Within a business, leadership is considered as the capacity of a company’s management for setting and achieving organisational goals. A leader has the capability to make quick decisions and actions when needed. Also, they have the capability to outperform the competition and inspire others to do their work by giving their best. An effective direction for organisational success is provided by an effective leader. Employees require to know the direction of their leader in order to achieve business goals. The definition of leadership captures the significance of being able to motivate others. An effective leader has many characteristics such as self-confidence, management skills, strong communication, innovative, creative thinking and perseverance in the face of failure, capability to take risks, and reactiveness in time of crisis. Moreover, the particular situation helps to determine the effective interaction style. However, the leaders must deal with the problems which need immediate solutions without consulting followers.

Types of leadership styles

There are a number of leadership styles which are widely used in various organisations in order to achieve common organisational goals. Some of the leadership styles are discussed below:

  • Autocratic Leadership: In this type of leadership style, all the responsibilities and authorities are held by a single person. A Leader makes a decision on his own without involving any other person. He reach decisions, communicates these decisions with other people and expects prompt implementation. The organisation having this type of leadership usually lacks flexibility or elasticity.
  • Democratic leadership: In this type of leadership style, subordinates get involved in decision making. Unlike the autocratic leadership style, it completely depends on the contributions of subordinates. Final decisions and responsibilities are held by the democratic leader, but they are known to delegate authority to the other people, which defines the work projects.
  • Strategic leadership style: The head of an organisation is considered as the strategic leader. However, these leaders are not limited to the top of the organisation. The strategic leadership style is increased to a massive audience at the entire levels who seek to develop a high-performance organisation, team or life.
  • Transformational leadership: This leadership style is all about initiating change in groups, organisations and others. The leader having a transformational leadership style can effectively motivate others in order to perform more accurately and effectively. Typically, they set more challenging expectations and thus achieve greater outcomes.
  • Team leadership: This type of leadership style includes the development of a vivid picture of a teams’ future. Moreover, the vision provides and inspires an effective sense of direction and purpose.
