Human resource management refers to the practice of hiring, recruiting, managing and deploying an organisations’ employees. HR department of an organisation or company has the responsibility to create and oversee the policies governing workers and the organisation’s relationship with its employees. HRM is primarily considered as the employee management and employees are considered as the business’s assets. In this case, work force of an organisation also refers as the human capital. The primary aim of HRM is to make efficient use of employees, increasing ROI (Return on Investment) and minimising risk. Moreover, the HRM’s role is to manage the workforce in order to achieve the organisational goals and reinforce the culture. The HR manager has the capability to recruit new professional who have necessary skills that can be beneficial for the organisation to achieve its goal. HR plays an important role in the overall organisational success by recruiting and choosing the best candidates for filling job vacancies. Moreover, HR continues to perform their work closely with the management teams in the organisation in order to make sure that the work force is appropriate.

Major Functions of Human Resources

There are various functions of Human resources and some of these are discussed below:

Strategic Management: Professionals of Human resource are proactive to plan for the future with meeting the continuous long-term and short-term strategic aims of the organisation.

Workforce planning and employment: Workplace planning includes orientation, selection, and recruitment and exit process. HR manager cooperatively works with Human Resources in order to determine staff requirements and also recruit staffs to fill job vacancies. The recruitment team of Human Resource recruits and selects the best candidates for the organisation and also ensures the efficiency of the workforce.

Human Resource Development: Human Resource has the responsibility to ensure that employees get proper training in order to appropriately perform their jobs. Therefore, the staff force will be formulated to help achieve organisational goals and objectives.

Total Rewards: The Human Resource benefits team has the responsibility to acquire and administer an attractive compensation and benefits for the new employees. This includes dental and medical insurance, competitive salary range, choice of life insurance, flexible spending account, tuition reimbursement.

Policy Formulation: HR keeps new employees and existing employees abreast of the procedures and policies of the company. This includes the code of conduct manual, employee handbook distribution, and performance appraisals guidelines.

Labour and employee relations: The employee relations team wants to align the rights and needs of employees with the organisation’s needs. Things like non-union and union issues, sexual harassment and discrimination problems are the matters which handles by the department of labour relations.

Risk Management: The risk management team of Human Resource along with the HR manager should be proactive to detect risk items which could pose a possible threat to the organisation.
